When
Alan Sentell began turkey hunting at the ripe old age
of 13, he had no one to hunt with, no camo, his dad’s
old quail gun and no one to teach him the fine art of
turkey hunting. Alan bought an old call box from an
older gentleman that he used as a pattern. "It
took me a year before I got a turkey," he chuckles
now, as he remembers.
Still, from the time he heard his first hen yelp, Alan
was hooked. He’s now spent more than 30 years
learning by trial and error just what works in the woods.
And Alan says, he’s not finished yet!
About 15 years ago, Alan began to get serious about
wanting to create calls. He made a few and gave them
away, and then sold a few here and there, too. However
in 1996, Alan prayed a prayer that would change his
life. "I talk to the Lord just the way I would
talk to my Dad," Alan explains. One night, Alan
says he was apologizing, feeling as though God had blessed
him with skills and abilities that he wasn’t using
to his full advantage. " I asked God to show me
a gift that he had given me that I could use that might
amount to something." The next day, a man called
Alan and asked him to make a turkey call for him. "I
knew in my heart this was the answer to my prayer,"
Alan explains.
